DrinksRation was developed through research grant funding to support Armed Forces personnel in managing their alcohol consumption. This funding enabled us to create, maintain, and continuously improve the app to serve our military community.
Unfortunately, this research grant funding has come to an end. This has required us to make some difficult decisions about the future of the app to ensure we can continue supporting our users effectively with the resources available.
Based on our usage data, the majority of our users are on iOS devices. This data-driven insight has guided our decision to focus exclusively on iOS, allowing us to concentrate our limited resources where they can benefit the most users.
The iOS platform also provides a more consistent environment for our app, allowing us to deliver a superior user experience with fewer technical issues. This focused approach enables us to maintain stability, security, and long-term reliability for the majority of our user base.
We understand that many of you have been using the previous version of DrinksRation built on the Ionic framework. Unfortunately, we are unable to transfer data from the Ionic version to the new iOS app.
This limitation is due to fundamental differences in how the platforms store and manage user data. The Ionic app and the native iOS app use different data structures and storage mechanisms that are not compatible with each other. While we explored various options for data migration, we determined that ensuring the security and integrity of your personal information was paramount, and a migration pathway would compromise these critical aspects.
With the end of our research grant funding and the majority of users on iOS, Android devices will no longer be supported at this time. We recognize this may be disappointing for Android users who have benefited from DrinksRation.
This decision, while difficult, allows us to concentrate our limited resources on delivering the highest quality experience for the majority of our users, rather than dividing resources across multiple operating systems. We believe this focused approach will provide the best support for our mission to help service personnel reduce their alcohol consumption.
While we've had to make this difficult decision due to funding constraints, we hope to bring back an Android version in the future. If new funding opportunities or sustainable revenue models become available, expanding platform support will be a priority.
Our team is actively exploring options that would allow us to support multiple platforms while maintaining the high standards of quality, security, and stability that our users deserve. As we develop our roadmap, we will continue to evaluate emerging technologies and sustainable approaches that could enable us to serve both iOS and Android users.

Changing platforms and being unable to transfer historical data or support Android devices creates challenges, and we deeply appreciate your understanding.
